Description

Some supplements may help you relax before bed, but most sleep claims online are stronger than the evidence actually supports. Glycine has some evidence for improving perceived sleep quality and may slightly lower core body temperature before sleep. L theanine may promote relaxation without being strongly sedating, while valerian root, passionflower and lemon balm may help some people unwind. Research on all three is still mixed or limited. Tart cherry products naturally contain small amounts of melatonin and may modestly support sleep duration or quality in some people. Magnesium supports normal nerve and muscle function, but magnesium glycinate is not proven to be a universal sleep aid. It may be more useful when magnesium intake is inadequate. GABA supplements are popular for calming the brain, but it is still unclear how effectively supplemental GABA influences the brain. Apigenin is another promising compound, but strong human sleep research is still limited. Zinc supports many normal body functions, but taking zinc before bed does not automatically deepen sleep. Supplement it for a genuine nutritional need rather than using it as a sleeping pill. Before building a large bedtime supplement stack, focus on the basics first: consistent sleep timing, less late caffeine, dimmer evening light and enough time in bed.
