Description

How a $600 GPU Outsmarts AI Data Centers Can a standard 12GB graphics card run a massive 125-billion-parameter AI model? Unlike GPT or Claude, which require massive data centers, an open-source engine called Strata runs massive models directly on a home PC at up to 94 tokens per second. Here is how it pulls it off: Mixture of Experts (MoE): Instead of computing all weights for every single word, the model activates only a tiny fraction (about 2%) of "expert" subnetworks per token. Smart VRAM Caching: Most weights stay parked in standard system RAM, while the most active "hot" experts are cached directly inside the GPU's 12GB VRAM. Zero Bottleneck Swapping: If a required expert isn't on the card, the CPU crunches it straight out of RAM while the GPU handles the rest—swapping experts dynamically as the conversation shifts. It turns out an AI model never needed to fit inside your GPU all at once. #AI #MachineLearning #TechTrends #OpenSource #GamingPC #RTX #TechNews #ArtificialIntelligence #Shorts
