Description

If a man grabs your wrist in a parking lot, the hand you'd fight back with isn't the hand you had at 35. By 79, grip strength is down nearly 30 percent from its peak. This simple wooden tool doesn't need a strong grip, and police have trusted it for almost 90 years. I'm Gary Benson, and in this video I'll show you what the tool is, why a weak or arthritic hand can still use it, and where it came from, starting with a 1937 police patent in Berkeley, California, and ending with the kubotan that female officers of the Los Angeles Police Department trained with in the late 1960s. You'll learn the two ways to hold it, the hammer strike that keeps your knuckles out of harm's way, and the simple move that gets a grabbing hand off your wrist. I'll also show you how to make one yourself for a couple of dollars, and walk you through the three mistakes that can turn this legal little stick into a weapons charge. Those are carrying it into the wrong building, assuming your state's law reads like someone else's, and talking about it like a weapon. I'm not a lawyer. Weapon laws vary by state and city, so read your own before you carry one every day. If you want more plain-spoken safety advice from a veteran, subscribe to @GaryBensonYT. Stay sharp, stay ready, and take care of each other. #selfdefense #kubotan #seniorsafety #selfdefenseforseniors #personalsafety
