Description
What happens when open-pit mining pushes machines, operators, and haul systems to their limits? This is where the toughest mining equipment takes over.
When mining gets extreme, ordinary equipment is no longer enough. This is where powerful mining machines, massive excavators, wheel loaders, and haul trucks take over.
In this episode of Beast Machines World, we follow some of the hardest-working heavy mining equipment operating in open-pit mines and quarries, where every loading cycle, truck movement, and bucket pass affects production.
Watch the Komatsu WA700 and Caterpillar 992 wheel loaders move fragmented rock and keep haul trucks cycling through the loading face. The WA700 combines mobility with a 12–13.5 cubic-yard bucket, while the Cat 992 works with payloads reaching 25.5 short tons.
The scale increases with the Terex O&K RH 120-E, Caterpillar 6030, and Liebherr R 9350 hydraulic mining excavators. These machines handle topsoil, overburden, fragmented rock, and ore while matching their digging cycles to large mining trucks.
Then come the true giants. The Hitachi EX3600 operates in the 800,000-pound class, while the Liebherr R 996 B reaches roughly 740 short tons with twin engines producing a combined 3,000 horsepower.
Finally, the Liebherr T 282B shows why open-pit mining is a complete system. Its 400-short-ton payload only matters when excavators load efficiently, haul roads remain usable, and maintenance keeps the truck moving.
This is not just about the biggest machines. It is about open-pit mining, mining excavators, heavy equipment, truck-loader matching, operator control, and the machines that keep production moving when conditions become demanding.
Selected scale models and collectibles inspired by the mining machines featured in this video may be tagged below for viewers who want to explore them.
