Description

Bedroom in Arles is a series of three oil paintings by Dutch Post Impressionist Vincent van Gogh, created between 1888 and 1889, which depict his actual sleeping quarters inside the Yellow House in Arles, France. Intended to evoke a sense of absolute rest and tranquility, the artist used bold, vibrant colors and a distinctly flattened perspective inspired by traditional Japanese woodblock prints. The three distinct versions of the masterpiece are now spread across major international institutions: the first version (October 1888) is at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the second identical-scale version (September 1889) belongs to the Art Institute of Chicago, and the third, smaller canvas created for his family is housed at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
