Description

I tested 10 popular concealed carry guns to find out which ones older shooters can actually load, rack, and fire under stress—especially with arthritis or reduced hand strength. Using a stopwatch and a 74-year-old pair of hands, I measured what matters in a real defensive situation, and only two pistols passed. Drawing on my years as a security and protection officer with the Central Intelligence Agency, I break down the three critical numbers behind each test: slide force, trigger weight, and recoil recovery. I also explain why choosing a defensive handgun is often less about marksmanship and more about reliable manipulation when strength and dexterity are limited. For practical guidance on responsible handgun ownership, choosing suitable equipment, and building safer firearm habits, get my Practical Firearm Owner’s Handbook here
