The Whitney Houston Music Video They Tried to Ban

A maze of color, a shy superstar, and a phone call from Clive Davis. Go inside the music video moments that made Whitney Houston unforgettable. From a polythene maze splashed with printer’s ink to a spontaneous doorway laugh left in the cut, the directors and creatives revisit How Will I Know and the whirlwind New York shoot for I Wanna Dance With Somebody. Hear how Aretha Franklin’s godmother cameo took shape, why Whitney’s nerves and limited dance comfort reshaped the choreography, and the private close-up that left knees wobbling. Then jump to the raw, live energy behind So Emotional, complete with buzzing fans, banners, and a protective father’s meeting. Along the way: Arista Records cassette handoffs, Denise Steiner’s vibrant styling, MGMM’s fast-turn shoots, and the MTV-winning result that followed a frank debate with Clive. It’s a vivid, inside look at how iconic 80s pop visuals were built around an unmatched voice and smile. Watch to discover the choices you’ve heard about but never seen this close. #WhitneyHouston #HowWillIKnow #IWannaDanceWithSomebody #ArethaFranklin #CliveDavis #MusicVideos #80sPop
