The Terrifying Truth About the Voyager Golden Record

What did NASA actually send into space for anyone who might one day find it? In 1977, NASA placed the Voyager Golden Record aboard Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 — a time capsule containing sounds, music, greetings in 55 languages, and 115 images representing life on Earth. The record also carries diagrams showing how it can be played and a pulsar map indicating the location of our solar system. But choosing what to put on that record meant choosing what humanity would be remembered for. What made the final cut? What was left out? And what does the Golden Record reveal about the way we see ourselves? This video explores the story behind humanity's most unusual message — a small golden disc traveling through interstellar space long after the people who created it are gone.
