Description
In 1972, archaeologists digging beneath a hill called Mawangdui in central China broke into a sealed Han dynasty tomb buried under tons of charcoal and white clay. Inside four nested coffins, submerged in a mysterious reddish liquid, lay Xin Zhui, the Lady Dai: a noblewoman buried more than 2,100 years ago, still intact down to her fingerprints.
This archaeology documentary follows the excavation of one of the greatest tomb discoveries of the 20th century: the silk banner that mapped her journey to the afterlife, a silk robe so fine it weighs just 49 grams, and the melon seeds that revealed her final hours. Archaeologists solved how Lady Dai died. But one question has never been answered: what kept her intact for two thousand years?
