Anak Krakatau Volcano Erupts in Indonesia! Ash Reaches 50,000 Feet, Jakarta Airports Shut Down

Anak Krakatau erupted violently in Indonesia's Sunda Strait, sending ash up to 50,000 feet and forcing six airports to suspend operations. Volcanic ash drifted over Jakarta and Lampung, more than 300 flights were cancelled at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, and schools and fishing activity were halted along the coast. Authorities kept the alert at the second highest level with a two mile exclusion zone around the crater, but reported no casualties and no tsunami threat.
