Description

I am 90 years old. This morning my nine year old grandson Saleem came to me with a piece of paper. His teacher had asked him to write about his grandfather. He wanted to know everything about me. I told him nothing. I just said — beta, dada is happy. I did not tell him that my pension runs out four days before the end of the month. The fifth — after Shameem passed, I shared my grief with my son Bilal every time he visited. His wife told me he could not function for three days after each visit. I was putting my heaviest burden on my youngest child. The sixth — I once told my adult son about a mistake I made decades ago. He told his wife. She told the children. And the father they had respected for seventy years became something smaller in their eyes. Some things are better carried to the grave. Your children do not need your burdens. They need your
