Description

In 1945, the fighting ended but the world was transformed. Europe’s borders were redrawn, millions of people were displaced, Germany was occupied and the victorious Allies began constructing a new international order. The film traces the creation of the United Nations, the opening of the Nuremberg Trials and the immense economic and social challenges facing Britain, Germany and the Soviet Union. At the same time, the United States emerged with unprecedented economic power while tensions with Stalin’s Soviet Union deepened. By the end of the year, the foundations of the postwar world, and of the Cold War that would dominate the next half-century, were already taking shape.
