Description

The Florida Keys Is Hiding Something Nobody Talks About Video description: The Florida Keys look like paradise from the surface — turquoise water, tropical islands, endless bridges, and the famous drive to Key West. But behind the postcard scenery is a side of the Keys that most visitors never hear about. In this video, we explore the hidden history, strange geography, forgotten places, shipwrecks, remote islands, and natural mysteries scattered across the Florida Keys. From Key Largo and Islamorada to Marathon, the Seven Mile Bridge, Big Pine Key, Key West, and the remote Dry Tortugas, this island chain has stories buried both on land and beneath the ocean. The Florida Keys stretch for more than 220 miles and include roughly 1,700 islands. The surrounding Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary protects 4,539 square miles of water containing coral reefs, seagrass meadows, mangrove islands, archaeological sites, and thousands of marine species. And beneath these waters is another world. Hundreds of documented shipwrecks are scattered around the Keys, while NOAA maintains a special Shipwreck Trail featuring nine historic wreck sites. The region is also home to North America's only coral barrier reef, part of Florida's Coral Reef system stretching more than 350 miles. We'll also uncover the history of the Overseas Highway and Henry Flagler's legendary Over-Sea Railroad, which first reached Key West in 1912, as well as the isolated Dry Tortugas nearly 70 miles west of Key West and the massive 19th-century Fort Jefferson. This is the Florida Keys beyond the beaches and resorts — hidden shipwrecks, abandoned history, incredible engineering, vulnerable coral reefs, remote islands, hurricane stories, and places millions of tourists pass without realizing what they're looking at. If you thought you knew the Florida Keys, Key West, Seven Mile Bridge, Dry Tortugas, and the Overseas Highway, there is much more hiding beneath the surface. #floridakeys #keywest #florida #floridatravel #hiddenflorida #floridahistory #floridamysteries #floridasecrets #keylargo #islamorada #marathonflorida #sevenmilebridge #drytortugas #overseashighway #forgottenflorida #hiddenamerica #americanhistory #travelusa #floridaislands #floridafacts #historydocumentary #geographydocumentary #mysteriousplaces #hiddenplaces #floridaexplored
