Researchers Cloned 4 Wolves From Nearly Lost DNA — What Happened Next Was Unbelievable

Fourteen seconds of grainy trail-camera footage captured something that had no business being alive: a wolf from a bloodline erased so completely its last sighting predated the automobile. This is the true story of how researchers cloned four wolves from nearly lost, badly degraded DNA — and what these animals did next that no one in the lab was prepared for. We trace the collapse that followed when this keystone predator vanished: exploding deer and elk herds, forests that stopped reproducing, eroding riverbanks, dying fish, and abandoned beaver dams. Then we explore the science of de-extinction, genetic reconstruction, and rewilding — and the unpredictable behaviors that left hardened biologists silent. What happens when you crack open a door nature meant to stay closed forever? The answer is stranger than any experiment.
