The Real Face of Jesus: What Science Discovered and Movies Never Showed

What did Jesus really look like? For nearly two thousand years, the world has imagined Jesus with long hair, pale skin, and distinctly European features. But the Gospels never describe His height, eye color, hairstyle, or facial structure. So where did the familiar face of Jesus come from? In this documentary, we explore the historical appearance of Jesus through the world of first-century Galilee, biblical clues, archaeology, forensic reconstruction, and centuries of Christian art. We examine the famous reconstruction associated with Richard Neave, later digital interpretations of Jesus, the significance of Judas identifying Him with a kiss, and what history can actually tell us about the appearance of a Jewish man living in Galilee during the first century. Then we trace how Greco-Roman culture, Byzantine Christianity, Renaissance art, and later film helped shape the image of Jesus recognized around the world today. Science cannot give us a verified portrait of Jesus. But history can help us understand why He probably looked very different from many familiar Western depictions.
