The aroma of this tea is so wonderful... The family is going to be absolutely delighted once they taste the tea I’ve brewed today! Narration: Suhani is smiling as she prepares tea in the kitchen when Shanti enters the house, carrying the *puja* (worship) thali. Her face looks flushed with irritation—it is early morning, after all. She places the *puja* thali on the table... Shanti, 58 (Exasperated, in a loud voice): Is there anyone in this house who is going to serve me tea or not? I’ve returned from the temple after prayers, yet the day hasn't even begun in this house! How much longer must I wait for a cup of tea? Narration: Shanti is still shouting when Suhani calls out from the kitchen... Suhani, 25 (Calling out hurriedly): *Maa-ji*! The tea is ready... I’m bringing it right over; please, have a seat! Narration: Suhani quickly strains the piping-hot tea, arranges the cups on a tray, and brings them to the living room, handing a cup each to her father-in-law, Mahendra, and mother-in-law, Shanti... Shanti (58) (taking the first sip of tea, a look of contentment spreading across her face): Oh, wow, *Chhoti Bahu*! You’ve made excellent tea today... the flavor of the cardamom is truly wonderful! Narration: Just then, Suhani’s sister-in-law, Kavita, walks in; hearing her mother-in-law praise her younger sister-in-law makes her feel irritated... Kavita (31) (scoffing, in a taunting tone): Oh, come on, *Maa-ji*! She’s made the tea exactly the way she makes it every day... Narration: Kavita has barely said this when Shanti’s phone rings; she quickly picks it up... Shanti (58) (holding the phone to her ear): Hello, Payal dear! Payal (24) (on the phone, happily): *Maa*, how are you? Shanti (58) (on the phone): I’m fine; tell me, how are you? Payal (24) (on the phone, happily): *Maa*, I’m doing great too... and listen, I have a huge surprise for you! Shanti (58) (smiling, eagerly): What kind of surprise, dear? Tell me quickly—what is it? Payal (24) (on the phone, happily): *Maa*, I’m coming home to visit you today! Shanti (58) (chirping with delight): Oh, wow! That’s wonderful news! Are you coming alone, or is my son-in-law coming along too? Payal (24) (laughing): *Maa*, this time it’s not just my husband coming along—my entire in-laws' family is coming too! We had to visit a relative near your place, so I spoke to everyone and suggested we also visit my parents' home... and they’ve all agreed! Shanti (58) (Excitedly): Oh, that’s wonderful news, dear! Do come over; we’ll have so much to talk about! Narration: Shanti hangs up the phone and immediately calls out to both her daughters-in-law in a flurry... Shanti (58) (Calling out): Oh, elder daughter-in-law! Oh, younger daughter-in-law! Both of you, come here right now! Kavita (31) (Stepping forward, surprised): What happened, *Maa-ji*? Why do you look so flustered? Shanti (58) (With a mix of joy and seriousness): Listen, both of you—today, the in-laws of my daughter Payal are coming to visit us! There must be absolutely no shortcomings in our hospitality! Together, you two need to cook up a truly magnificent feast! Narration: Hearing Shanti’s words, Kavita gets lost in her own thoughts... Kavita (31) (Anxious, to herself): Oh dear! How am I supposed to cook for so many people all by myself? I’ll be completely exhausted! Besides, I have a party to attend this evening... I know what I’ll do—I’ll take charge of the dessert... and my sister-in-law can handle the rest of the heavy cooking! Kavita (31) (Putting on a fake smile): *Maa-ji*, I was thinking I could make the dessert... you know how good I am at making *halwa*... I’ll take care of all the sweets; you can ask my sister-in-law to handle the rest of the cooking... Shanti (58) (Looking at Suhani... issuing an order): You heard that, didn't you, younger daughter-in-law? "Your sister-in-law will make the dessert, and you should prepare the rest of the meal properly... there shouldn't be any shortcomings in the food!"
