Description
Deep in the remote mountains of rural Afghanistan, Soraya and her husband Farid live a simple and difficult life surrounded by dry valleys, rugged mountain ridges and their small mud-and-stone home. This documentary-style story follows one peaceful day in their rural life, from working in a small onion field to preparing a traditional homemade meal together.
Farid begins the day harvesting fresh onions from their small field while Soraya prepares bread dough near their mountain home. Later, they carefully clean and prepare sheep tripe using traditional rural methods before slowly cooking it with onion, garlic, lemon, turmeric, black pepper, bay leaves and cinnamon over a primitive wood-fired stove.
As the stew simmers, Soraya prepares handmade Afghan-style flatbread, baking each piece over the same traditional outdoor fire. Fresh basil, green onions and lemon are gathered for the meal, while ginger and rock candy are used to prepare warm homemade tea. At the end of the day, Soraya and Farid sit together in the open courtyard, share their simple mountain dinner and enjoy hot ginger tea surrounded by the quiet beauty of Afghanistan’s rugged landscape.
This video is created in a documentary-inspired style to portray fictional rural characters, traditional food preparation and everyday life in a remote Afghan mountain setting.
