Woodchipper Murder: The US' First Ever Conviction With No Body

In November 1986, a massive snowstorm blanketed Newtown, Connecticut, and 39-year-old flight attendant Helle Crafts vanished without a trace. With no crime scene, no weapon, and no body, police were stumped — until a snowplow driver reported seeing her husband, Richard, operating a commercial woodchipper on a bridge in the dead of night. Discover how pioneering forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee and a dedicated police task force used cutting-edge techniques to gather less than three ounces of human material — including 56 bone chips and 2,660 hairs — from the bottom of an icy lake. This is the gripping story of how trace evidence brought down a killer and secured the first murder conviction without a body in United States history. Licensed to Little Dot Studios.
