He Aimed His Guns At His Own Army

On March 16, 1968, a helicopter pilot flew over a Vietnamese village and saw something he could not ignore. This is the story of the My Lai Massacre, one of the darkest events of the Vietnam War — and of Hugh Thompson, a young U.S. Army helicopter pilot who landed between American soldiers and Vietnamese civilians and ordered his crew to protect them. As the killings continued, Thompson, Lawrence Colburn, and Glenn Andreotta risked their own lives to save civilians trapped in the village. When Thompson reported what he had witnessed, the truth was not immediately welcomed. The events at My Lai would eventually become a national scandal, leading to investigations, trials, and worldwide outrage. This is not simply a story about war. It is a story about courage, conscience, and one terrifying decision made in the middle of a massacre. #MyLaiMassacre #HughThompson #vietnamwar #vietnamwarhistory #militaryhistory #warhistory #historydocumentary #vietnamhistory #mylai
