Stargate (1994): Deleted Scene That Revealed Why Ra Never Returned to Earth

Stargate (1994) hid more than one deleted scene—and one of them may explain why Ra never returned to Earth. From Ra’s original identity to the real CIA STARGATE program, these are 10 secrets behind the sci-fi classic. More than three decades after Roland Emmerich’s Stargate first introduced audiences to Daniel Jackson, Colonel O’Neil, Abydos, and the mysterious alien ruler Ra, the film still contains unanswered questions, deleted material, and abandoned ideas that completely change how parts of the story can be understood. In this video, we explore Ra’s original backstory before it was rewritten, the deleted scene showing what happened when his forces tried to return to Earth, and the Stargate novelization’s explanation for one of the movie’s biggest apparent plot holes. We also uncover the bizarre real-life CIA STARGATE remote-viewing program, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich’s abandoned Stargate trilogy, and the surprisingly real physics behind traversable wormholes. We also look at the Egyptscape copyright lawsuit, the brutal conditions used to create the desert world of Abydos, the surprising story of how Stargate was sold to MGM, and a darker theory surrounding Colonel O’Neil’s mission.
