Description
A fireproof box on a closet shelf, three years of quiet drift, and one form that still had a name on it that could not act anymore. In this video I walk through the seven documents I tell every person living alone to have organized, current, and easy to find, based on decades doing home safety assessments and what I finally fixed in my own home. A durable power of attorney for finances, an advance healthcare directive paired with a healthcare power of attorney, a current medication and doctor list, a written map of your financial accounts, all your insurance information in one place, your will and property documents, and a single emergency contact and document location sheet that ties the whole thing together.
I also cover how to actually keep all of this organized day to day, a once a year review habit tied to something you will never forget, why telling exactly one trusted person matters more than telling everyone, a digital backup to protect against fire or a simply misplaced box, what this actually costs your family in time and money if none of it exists, and how to raise the whole subject with your own children without turning it into one heavy conversation.
This video is general organizational guidance only. For anything involving your own state's specific laws, talk to a lawyer, and for anything involving your own medications, talk to your pharmacist or doctor.
