The CIA Spent $20 Million Trying to Turn a Cat Into a Spy

The CIA Spent $20 Million Trying to Turn a Cat Into a Spy During the height of the Cold War, the CIA launched one of the strangest intelligence projects ever conceived: Operation Acoustic Kitty. Over five years, the CIA invested an estimated $15–20 million, developing miniature transmitters, microphones, and other cutting-edge technology in an effort to create the ultimate four-legged spy. In this episode of Hidden Archive, we separate fact from fiction, uncover the truth behind the famous "spy cat" story, and explore the other astonishing animal-based espionage projects that followed—from camera-carrying pigeons to robotic fish and cyborg insects.
