Description

Peppers are finally here—the long-awaited pepper podcast. Susan and Sarah share what’s been happening in the garden (spoiler: we planted “just a few” pepper plants… and ended up with buckets of peppers coming in nonstop). We talk about what grew best this year (thanks to all the rain), what didn’t work when starting peppers from seed (they need heat and extra TLC), and what we’re doing with the harvest: drying cayennes for homemade pepper flakes, making sweet hot pickled peppers, pepper relish, pepper jelly, and getting ready to make salsa using our tomatoes, peppers, and onions. Susan also shares a simple summer staple we love—tomatoes + onions + hot peppers—and why it’s one of the easiest, freshest things to keep on hand during harvest season. In this episode: Why peppers from seed can be tricky (and what we learned) The pepper varieties we’re harvesting: cayenne, jalapeño, serrano, bell, pepperoncini Drying and stringing cayennes for flakes/powder Sweet hot pickled peppers (using leftover bread & butter-style brine) Pepper relish + pepper jelly ideas (cream cheese + crackers, biscuits + butter) Salsa plans + why we stick with a favorite tried-and-true recipe Safety reminder: wear gloves when processing hot peppers (learn from our childhood story!) Let us know in the comments: what peppers are you harvesting right now—and what are you making with them? Don’t forget to like, comment, subscribe, and share for more Garden Talk.
