Description
Att elle fais vrm ça genre? We often trust the people closest to us blindly, convinced that the ones we love and cherish will always hold our best interests at heart. We assume loyalty, kindness, and sincerity will define every interaction we share with our dearest friends. We laugh off small flaws, overlook tiny mistakes, and make endless excuses for their behavior, certain they would never intentionally hurt or betray us. Yet sometimes, in the most ordinary moment, someone you trusted wholeheartedly does something so shocking, so selfish, and so unexpected that you are left frozen, stunned, repeating the same quiet question in your mind: did she really do that?
Luna was my closest friend throughout my entire high school senior year. We were inseparable. We shared every secret, every late-night worry, every dream for our future college lives. We applied for the same university, planned to room together, and spent months imagining our upcoming life away from home. I trusted her with everything—my fears, my failures, my proudest achievements, and even the vulnerable insecurities I never dared to show anyone else. To me, she was my person, my safe place, the friend who would always have my back no matter what happened.
I had spent nearly eight months crafting my personal admission essay for our dream university. It was the most important piece of writing I had ever created, filled with my genuine life experiences, my growth from past failures, and my most sincere aspirations for my future studies. I revised it countless times, stayed up countless nights polishing every sentence, and poured all my passion and effort into every word. This essay was my biggest hope, my key to stepping into the college life I had longed for years.
Since Luna struggled greatly with her own admission writing, I kindly offered to help her. I shared my writing skills with her, patiently taught her how to structure paragraphs, how to polish sentences, and how to integrate personal stories into her essay. Out of pure trust and kindness, I even let her read my finished draft, hoping it could inspire her and help her find her own writing rhythm. I never once doubted her, never imagined she would take advantage of my sincerity and trust. I thought our friendship was far more precious than any admission competition.
The college application deadline passed quietly, and we both submitted our materials as planned. I continued to comfort and encourage her when she felt anxious about the results, still wholeheartedly cheering for her success. I firmly believed that even if we were competing for the same admission spot, she would compete fairly and honorably, just like I did. I thought our years of friendship was unbreakable.
Three weeks later, the preliminary admission results were released. I was shocked and devastated to find that my application was rejected, while Luna received an official acceptance letter. I was confused and heartbroken. My grades and extracurricular performances were far more competitive, and my essay had been praised by my teachers as outstanding. I could not understand why I failed while she succeeded effortlessly.
The truth came out accidentally from our teacher a few days later. When the school reviewed outstanding admission essays for annual archives, they found that Luna’s final essay was strikingly similar to mine in core structure, story logic, and even many original descriptive sentences. She had copied large sections of my draft, revised only a few simple details, and submitted it as her own work. She had stolen my months of hard work, my sincere emotions, and my future opportunity right from under my nose.
I could not believe it at first. I kept asking myself over and over again: Att elle fais vrm ça genre? How could the friend who slept over at my house, who cried with me during hard days, who promised to walk into college with me side by side, do something so cruel and selfish? All my trust, all my sincerity, all my kindness had been turned into a tool for her to gain success. She watched me work tirelessly for months, knew how much this opportunity meant to me, yet still chose to steal my efforts and ruin my dream without a single hesitation.
I confronted her that afternoon, my hands shaking and my heart aching unbearably. Facing the solid evidence, she did not apologize, did not show any guilt or remorse. She only lowered her head and mumbled weakly that she was too scared of failing, that she had no other choice. In that moment, all the beautiful memories we shared turned cold and hollow. I finally realized that I was the only one who took our friendship seriously. To her, our bond was never precious, only convenient—a tool she could use to get what she wanted.
