When Hollywood Legends were asked about Meryl Streep

There's a line people reach for when they want to take Meryl Streep down a peg: she doesn't act, she does accents. Polish in Sophie's Choice. Danish in Out of Africa. Bronx in Doubt. Twenty-one Academy Award nominations, more than any actor in history, and there's still a camp convinced the whole thing is a very convincing party trick. So here's the question worth asking. Why does almost every actor who has stood in a scene with her come away saying the same thing? In this video, we look at what Hollywood legends and fellow actors have said about Meryl Streep — what she's actually like to work opposite, why people arrive intimidated and leave calling her the most generous actor they've worked with, and whether the most decorated performer in film history is overrated or underrated. Cher nearly didn't get on the plane to shoot Silkwood. She packed her bag, unpacked it in a panic, and her sister had to pack it again — she said she expected an audience with the Pope. Forty years later they're still close friends. Kurt Russell called working with her a career highlight and said she gives so much in a scene it's hard to keep up. Twenty-one nominations. Three wins. Fifty years in the business, and nobody has come close to the number. So is Meryl Streep overrated?
