Description
When William the Conqueror died in 1087, he left behind more than a kingdom — he left a ticking time bomb. Instead of passing his empire to one heir, he split it between his sons, and that single decision plunged Normandy and England into decades of betrayal, rebellion, and civil war.
In this video, we trace the brutal rivalry between Robert Curthose, William Rufus, and Henry I — three brothers locked in a struggle for power that saw castles besieged, alliances broken, and one brother's death in a mysterious hunting "accident" in the New Forest. We follow the fractures that split the Anglo-Norman realm apart, the rise of Henry I as the ruthless survivor of the family, and the eventual showdown at the Battle of Tinchebray in 1106 — where brother fought brother for control of Normandy itself.
This isn't just a story of kings and castles. It's a story of family betrayal at the highest level, and how the ambitions of three brothers shaped the future of medieval England.
