Why Am I Me?

Have you ever wondered why you are… you? Why are you experiencing life through this particular body, these eyes, this brain, and not someone else’s? Humans may have been confronting versions of this mystery for thousands of years. From prehistoric people staring into the night sky to modern scientists studying the brain, memory, consciousness, and the sense of self, one question remains surprisingly difficult to answer: why does existence feel like it is happening specifically to “me”? In this video, we explore how the brain creates a sense of bodily ownership, how memories help construct identity, what ancient humans may have understood about individuality and death, and why consciousness remains one of the deepest mysteries in science and philosophy. Maybe there was never a separate “you” placed inside your body. Maybe “you” are something your brain continuously creates. But that still leaves one strange question… Why am I me?
