Description
Where does your mobility scooter charge at night? If it sits beside a bed, in a closet, on carpet, or near furniture, I would move it before tonight. After thirty years as a fire captain, I know the scooter itself is not the problem—the charger, battery, location, and surrounding conditions can determine how safely it charges.
In this video, I explain eight charging mistakes I would never make with a mobility scooter, including:
• Using the wrong replacement charger
• Allowing cables to become damaged
• Choosing unsafe replacement batteries
• Charging inside a closet or near furniture
• Storing and charging safely during winter
• Installing an alarm in the charging room
• Keeping the scooter off carpet and away from bedroom exits
• Creating a safer charging setup and recognizing warning signs that require immediate action
I also share a final safety checklist to help protect both the scooter user and everyone in the home—without taking away the freedom the scooter provides.
