Spain Flood Emergency: Helicopter Rescues Underway After Rivers Burst Banks | RA15

Helicopter rescue operations are underway in eastern Spain after torrential rain from Storm Adam triggered severe flooding, cut off several towns and caused rivers to burst their banks on October 19, 2026. More than 2,000 people were evacuated, mainly in Oliva, while Spain's Civil Guard reported nearly 100 rescues across the Valencia and Alicante areas. Local officials also reported that two women died after being caught in floodwaters, with one body found on a beach in Sagunto and the other death linked to flooding in Cabrera de Mar, near Barcelona. Residents in affected communities describe widespread damage and call for better riverbed maintenance to reduce the risk of future flooding. Meteorologists say human-driven climate change can intensify extreme rainfall and make some extreme weather events more frequent.
