Description

In 1258, the Mongol Empire launched one of history's most devastating military campaigns against Baghdad, the capital of the Abbasid Caliphate. Under the command of Hulagu Khan, the Mongol army surrounded the city, broke its defenses, and brought an end to a dynasty that had ruled for over five centuries. The fate of Caliph al-Musta'sim and the Abbasid royal family became one of the most discussed events in medieval history. After Baghdad surrendered, the royal court was dismantled, the Caliph was executed, and the Abbasid dynasty effectively came to an end. The destruction of Baghdad also marked the collapse of one of the greatest centers of learning in the medieval world, including the famous House of Wisdom. This documentary explores the final days of the Abbasid Caliphate, the Mongol siege tactics, the fall of Baghdad, and how this event permanently reshaped the political and cultural history of the Middle East.
