Forty Years of Winters, Not One Gas Bill — The German Way to Heat With Wood Forty winters in the Black Forest, and not one gas bill. In this video, Konrad shows the German way to heat a home with wood. It starts with a handmade Grundofen that needs firing only once or twice a day. The wood comes from the state forest, where he cuts his own firewood with a permit at a fraction of the delivered price. He keeps his wood two winters ahead so it meets Germany's legal moisture limit, and a chimney sweep inspects the stove by law. He also lays out the full honest cost of four decades without a heating bill. Stay warm.
