Bremen Airport, Germany. Mike Mansholt’s mother and sister had been at the terminal for hours, waiting for him to walk through the arrival gate. He was seventeen, and this was his first real trip abroad on his own. A summer holiday in the small Mediterranean island country of Malta. He was supposed to be arriving on Lufthansa Flight 360 that evening. But the arrivals board had been showing a delay for hours. No one in the family thought much of it at first. After all, flights get delayed all the time. He was probably just stuck at his layover in Frankfurt. But then came an announcement: “Lufthansa Flight 360 has been cancelled” Mike’s mother picked up the phone and called him. Despite multiple attempts, she received no answer from Mike. By 2am that morning, with no explanation or word from her son, she reported him missing to German authorities. Weeks later, the family received a bodybag flown back from Malta. But whatever was in there wasn’t as heavy as a body should be. In fact, it only weighed 35 pounds. When coroners opened the bag, they were shocked by what they saw. It was Mike.
