Description

Jesus stood up in his own hometown, read a few lines from an old scroll, and stopped one sentence short on purpose. Within the hour, the same neighbors who watched him grow up had their hands on him, dragging him to the edge of a cliff. All over the words he read, and the one line he refused to say out loud. In this one we walk slowly through the fourth chapter of Luke, the day Jesus read from Isaiah 61 in the Nazareth synagogue and nearly got thrown off a hill for it. We sit with where he stopped reading, what "the acceptable year of the Lord" actually meant, why the stories of the widow at Zarephath and Naaman the Syrian turned a room full of neighbors into a mob, and the hidden meaning most people read right past. If you have ever feared you were standing on the outside of God's mercy, this story was written for you.
