Description
Why Scammers Go Silent for 5 Seconds — The New Version of the Trick
You say hello. Nothing comes back. One second. Two. You say hello again. Somewhere around the fifth second you hear a click and a voice that gets your last name wrong.
That pause used to run about three seconds. It now runs closer to five, and the extra two seconds are doing something to you that the old version never did.
Frank Holloway spent 26 years running a phone carrier's fraud and abuse analytics desk, then worked cases with a state attorney general's office. In this video he walks through exactly what a modern scam dialer does in those five quiet seconds: how it decides you are a live human, how it sorts your voice by age and situation before an agent ever picks up, why it wants a clean recording of you talking into dead air, and how the newest systems replace silence with a recorded "Hello? Can you hear me?" designed to get a yes out of you in under four seconds.
You will also learn what your phone number looks like on a scammer's spreadsheet, how one woman ended up getting fourteen calls a day for a year without ever losing a dollar, and the four-move protocol Frank set up on his own mother's phone: one hello, count to two, silence means hang up, a recorded hello means hang up, unknown numbers go to voicemail, switch to the default robot greeting, and guard the word yes.
Plus the two family habits that make a cloned voice useless to a criminal, even if your voice is already all over the internet.
