Description

Have you ever wondered if you could grow your own sponges? 🌱 In this video, we’re taking homegrown loofah from the garden and turning it into natural sponges we can use for bathing, washing dishes, cleaning chicken waterers, and more! We’ll show you how we process loofah step by step, including how we save the best seeds for next season, soak the loofah to make peeling much easier, rinse and clean the sponges, remove the remaining seeds, and get them ready to dry. One of the biggest tricks we’ve learned is to soak the loofah before peeling it. It makes removing the outer skin so much easier than trying to peel it while it’s dry! We also compost the loofah skins instead of throwing them away and show how we put some of the leftover seeds to good use around the farm. If you’ve been growing loofah, are thinking about growing it, or have never considered that a garden plant could become a natural sponge, we hope this video gives you some inspiration! 🌱 In this video: 00:00 Processing homegrown loofah 00:19 Saving loofah seeds 01:24 Rinsing off dust and debris 02:13 Soaking the loofah 02:53 Peeling wet vs. dry loofah 04:01 Rinsing and cleaning the sponges 04:23 Drying & removing remaining seeds 05:23 Composting the loofah skins 06:00 Last words 06:15 Planting/scattering leftover seeds 06:45 Baby chicks on pasture 07:20 Life on Our Homestead + Original Song 🎶 Have you processed loofah before?
