Description

A viral video from a Sandton restaurant has sparked outrage after businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama was filmed allegedly threatening a group of women after one of them rejected his advances. In the video, Lawrence allegedly tells the women that he will kill them and suggests that his wealth would allow him to walk free. The incident has now drawn attention to a reported R107 million SANRAL contract linked to Lawrence's company, as well as questions surrounding how the contract was awarded. SANRAL has reportedly been asked by the Department of Transport to investigate the matter. The story also comes just days after police confirmed that the bodies of nine women were found across Ekurhuleni, with four victims publicly identified as Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, Itumeleng Kekana, Dineo Evelyn Motapane and Gracious Nkomo. Five women remained unidentified in the latest reports. Police have cautioned that they have not established that all nine deaths are connected. In this video, we look at the viral Sandton restaurant incident, the allegations surrounding Lawrence's reported SANRAL contract, and the connection to Esethu Hasane, the Department of Transport whistleblower who has alleged irregular procurement involving millions of rands in livestreaming and media contracts. Hasane has alleged that the Department of Transport used repeated requests for quotations for livestreaming services, with seven quotations reportedly structured below the R1 million threshold for open competitive bidding. The department has ordered an independent investigation into the allegations. IMPORTANT: This is a developing story. The allegations discussed in this video have not all been proven in court. The reported SANRAL contract and related matters are subject to investigation, and allegations should not be treated as established facts.
