The Insane Price They Paid For A Golden Chair

In 1900, the British Empire demanded something the Asante people could never surrender: the Golden Stool — the sacred symbol of the Asante nation. When Governor Frederick Hodgson demanded to sit upon it, he didn’t just insult a kingdom. He triggered a resistance led by Yaa Asantewaa, a grandmother who refused to let the Asante people surrender their most sacred symbol. What followed became the War of the Golden Stool — a brutal struggle involving sieges, British reinforcements, exile, and resistance. The British eventually captured Kumasi and exiled Yaa Asantewaa. But there was one thing they never managed to take. The Golden Stool. This is the story of Yaa Asantewaa, the Asante resistance, and the sacred object that became a symbol of a nation’s identity. Watch until the end to understand why the Golden Stool was worth fighting for — and how it survived the British Empire. #goldenstool #yaaasantewaa #africanhistory #ghanahistory #asante #historydocumentary #britishempire #africanstories #history #documentary#britishhistory
