Description

How to get rid of mice: the problem is not the mice, it is a quarter-inch gap, and $8 of copper mesh closes it. An exterminator charges $350. Here is the pencil test that finds the hole in ten minutes. A quarter of an inch is the CDC number — the width of a pencil, and a mouse is through. One female has five to ten litters a year, five or six young in each, and they breed at six weeks. That math is why nothing you spray or plug in ever ends it. You are not fighting mice. You are fighting an opening. Six steps, in the order that matters. The first two end it. The next two catch what is already inside. The fifth is about not getting sick doing it. The sixth is the product most people grab first, and it is the one that can leave you worse off than when you started. ⏱ CHAPTERS 0:00 Why your house has mice 0:21 Do ultrasonic mouse repellers actually work 1:07 How fast do mice multiply 1:38 Where do mice get into a house 2:17 How to seal mouse entry holes 3:09 Where to put mouse traps 3:56 Best bait for a mouse trap 4:58 How to clean up mouse droppings safely 5:33 Should you use mouse poison 6:22 How to get rid of mice for $50 🔎 WHAT THE DOCUMENTS SAY • CDC: a quarter inch is all a mouse needs. Fill small holes with steel wool, caulk around it to hold it in place; for bigger openings use lath screen, metal, cement, hardware cloth or sheet metal. • CDC recommends snap traps and advises against glue traps and live traps, because a stuck animal urinates and that raises your exposure. • FTC, 2001: letters to more than 60 makers and sellers of ultrasonic pest devices — claims must be supported by scientific evidence. One brand faced a class action where the judge was shown footage of mice climbing on the running device. • University of California IPM: there is little evidence that sound, magnetic or vibrational devices of any kind will drive established house mice or rats from buildings. • UC IPM: a house mouse seldom ventures more than 30 feet from its nest — which is why rodenticide often results in mice dying inside the structure. • EPA restricted consumer rodenticides to protect children, pets and wildlife: packages capped at one pound, the strongest chemistry pulled from consumer shelves, tamper-resistant stations required outdoors. 🧰 THE WHOLE FIX Walk the outside with a pen and mark every gap, starting at the garage door sweep. Jam them with steel wool or copper mesh, caulk over the face. Snap traps against the wall in a T, ten feet apart. Solid bait tied to the trigger, peanut butter on top for smell. Give it fifteen days. Wet the mess down before you touch it — never sweep or vacuum it. About $50 against an exterminator's $350, and the hole stays closed. 👉 Tell me in the comments where your gap turned out to be. Mine was under the dishwasher, and I had walked past it for two years. #getridofmice #pestcontrol #homerepair #diyhome #mice
