Description

Paul Chose a Farming Word — And It Changes Everything You've gone down the list of spiritual gifts and found nothing. No prophecy. No tongues. No healing. Nothing you'd claim out loud. And underneath that silence lives a question most people never say because it sounds like doubt: if the Spirit gives gifts and I can't find mine — do I even have the Spirit? That question comes from a real confusion between two lists that sit in two different letters, written by the same man to two completely different churches solving two opposite problems. One list is plural. The other — with nine things hanging off it — isn't. In this study, we go line by line through Paul's vocabulary in 1 Corinthians 12 and Galatians 5 and show why he reached for five different Greek nouns when talking about gifts and then abandoned all of them for a single farming word when talking about fruit. We trace the image back through Psalm 1, John the Baptist, Jesus' vine metaphor in John 15, and the devastating test in Matthew 7 — where people claiming real prophetic gifts are told "I never knew you." A gift is handed to you. Fruit is grown in you. Both are the Spirit's work. But only one tells you what the Spirit is making of a person. 📖 Key passages covered: 1 Corinthians 12:4–11 — The four Greek nouns for spiritual gifts 1 Corinthians 12:12–27 — The body metaphor and the "weaker parts" reversal 1 Corinthians 13:1–3 — Love as the test gifts can fail Galatians 5:16–26 — Works of the flesh vs. the fruit of the Spirit John 15:1–17 — The vine, the branches, and the verb "remain" (menō) Matthew 7:15–23 — "I never knew you" Psalm 1:3 — The tree planted by streams of water 📌 What you'll learn: — Why "charisma" literally means "grace-gift" and what that does to spiritual hierarchies — The four vocabulary swaps Paul makes in four verses (charismata, diakonia, energēma, phanerōsis) — Why karpos (fruit) is singular in Greek — and what scholars actually agree on about that — How 1 Corinthians 13 is not a wedding poem but the hinge of a gifts argument — Why spiritual power is not a spiritual thermometer — The olive grove parable: why a tool transfers in a day but fruit takes years — What the real evidence of the Spirit looks like in ordinary life This is a Biblical Mysteries study — careful, cinematic, investigative Bible teaching. We examine the overlooked details, trace them through scripture, and reveal why they matter more than most people think.
