Description
The Ring of Fire Ontario deposit holds billions in critical minerals, but Canada has no road to reach it. Why is Ontario's richest ground still stranded?
Discovered in 2007 in the James Bay Lowlands, the Ring of Fire contains high-grade nickel at Eagle's Nest and massive chromite at Black Thor and Blackbird — metals essential for stainless steel and EV batteries. Yet almost 20 years later, there is still no permanent access.
This video breaks down why geography, not geology, is the barrier: waterlogged peat you have to build up like a dam, a 450-kilometre road network costing around $2B in public money, and a carbon sink vs development fight. We compare it to Sudbury, which only boomed because the railway arrived first, and explain why Webequie and Marten Falls First Nations are leading — not blocking — the access effort.

Geography Effect breaks down why places are the way they are.
Why some cities became powerful and others emptied out. Why certain states and countries hold more economic weight than they appear to. Why the geography underneath a place — its rivers, its terrain, its position — still shapes what happens there today.
Each video is a long-form explanation built around a single question most people have never thought to ask.
