Description
On May 5th, 1945, at the top of a sheer 50-foot cliff on Okinawa, one American medic ran into heavy Japanese fire without a weapon. His only goal? Lord, help me get just one more. This is the true, unembellished story of Desmond Doss.
Before the movie Hacksaw Ridge, there was the actual man. Desmond Doss was a Seventh-day Adventist and conscientious cooperator who refused to touch a rifle, enduring mockery and abuse from his own unit. But on an impossible escarpment in the Pacific theater, the same unwavering faith that made him an outcast gave him the courage to cross a fire-swept plateau for hours, lowering 75 wounded men to safety one by one.
If your father or grandfather was a combat medic or a Navy corpsman, honor them by leaving their name and unit in the comments below.
