Description

The APPALACHIAN Way to Make Salmon Patties (Grandma’s Old Recipe) Back in the mountains, nothing went to waste and supper had to stretch. A can of salmon, a sleeve of crackers, and a hot cast iron skillet were all Grandma needed to feed the whole family. These old-fashioned Appalachian salmon patties are crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and taste just like Sunday supper at her kitchen table. In this video, I’ll show you how to make them the way she did: simple pantry ingredients, no fancy tools, and fried golden in a well-seasoned skillet. 🐟 What you’ll need: 1 can (14.75 oz) pink salmon, drained 1 egg About ½ cup crushed saltine crackers (or cornmeal) ¼ cup finely chopped onion Salt and black pepper to taste A spoonful of flour, if needed to bind Bacon grease, lard or vegetable oil for frying 🍳 Grandma’s tips: Leave the soft bones and skin in. They mash right in and add calcium and flavor, just like she always did. Get the skillet good and hot before the patties go in so they don’t stick or soak up grease. Only flip once to keep them from falling apart. Serve them with fried potatoes, pinto beans, cornbread, or a big spoonful of creamed corn for a true mountain meal. If this recipe brings back memories, tell me in the comments: what did your grandma serve with her salmon patties? 👇 👍 Like the video, subscribe and turn on notifications for more old-time Appalachian recipes. #SalmonPatties #AppalachianCooking #GrandmasRecipes #SouthernCooking #OldFashionedRecipes #CastIronCooking #ComfortFood #DepressionEraRecipes
