Description

California's Salton Sea was born from an engineering disaster in 1905 when the Colorado River burst through poorly built irrigation canals. It became a glamorous resort destination rivalling Yosemite, hosted secret atomic bomb testing during World War Two, then collapsed into a toxic wasteland twice as salty as the Pacific.
