When Hollywood Legends were asked about Jack Nicholson

Jack Nicholson holds a record no other male actor has come close to — twelve Academy Award nominations, and three wins spread across three different decades. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Chinatown, The Shining, Terms of Endearment, Batman, A Few Good Men, As Good as It Gets, The Departed. Then, after 2010, he simply stopped. In this video, we look at what Hollywood legends and fellow actors have said about Jack Nicholson — what he was actually like to work opposite, how he built his characters, and whether the man everyone impersonates was ever really acting at all. Tom Cruise faced him down in the most famous courtroom scene of the nineties and still describes watching him construct the performance in real time. Morgan Freeman spent an entire film beside him and said he'd go home afterward and barely believe it had happened. Leonardo DiCaprio grew up idolizing him and then found himself sharing the screen. Michelle Pfeiffer, Adam Sandler, and others fill in the rest. So how good was Jack Nicholson really? And what do the actors who stood across from him say when nobody's performing?
