Description

Watch a complete 1974 Honda Civic RS restoration, transforming an abandoned JDM classic from severe rust and decay back into a beautiful Sunset Orange road car. This full ASMR car restoration follows the teardown, rust repair, metalwork, bodywork, paint, EB1 engine rebuild, reassembly, first start and final road test. Hidden for years inside the service area of an abandoned old bowling alley near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this first-generation Honda Civic RS had suffered from moisture, corrosion, storage damage and long-term neglect. The original Sunset Orange finish was heavily faded, the body showed serious rust around the rockers, lower quarters and wheel arches, the windshield was cracked, the tires were flat, and the compact Honda had clearly been sitting untouched for a very long time. The restoration begins with a careful recovery and transport to the Good Old Cars workshop. From there, the Civic is completely dismantled. The body is stripped back to bare steel, damaged sections are measured, cut out and repaired with new metal, welds are finished, the complete shell is sanded, localized body filler is applied and block-sanded, and the body is prepared for primer. After primer preparation, the Civic receives its period-correct solid Sunset Orange finish followed by clear coat and polishing. The original Honda EB1 1.2L SOHC inline-four is also completely rebuilt. The engine is dismantled, cleaned and measured before any machining is performed, then carefully reassembled with its twin CV carburetors and 5-speed manual transaxle. Suspension, brakes, steering, wheels, lighting, glass, trim and the right-hand-drive interior are restored before the entire car is assembled again. Finally, the rebuilt EB1 engine is started in the car, tuned, checked for leaks and taken back onto Wisconsin roads for its first drive after restoration.
