Description

Thirty-eight people. Six hundred years. Zero looters. Archaeologists have just opened a sealed Chimu tomb at Chan Chan, Peru — the largest adobe city ever built in the Americas — and what they found inside is rewriting what we know about the Chimu Empire. At the center of the burial chamber lay a skull painted in vivid red cinnabar... buried not once, but twice. In this video, we go inside the discovery: the 38 individuals laid to rest together, the chamber holding around 20 bodies, the weapons and emblems buried with almost no one, and the strange evidence that the Chimu returned to this tomb years after sealing it — to move the bones of their own ancestors. With 93% of Chan Chan still buried underground, this unlooted tomb may be the most important Chimu discovery of the decade.
