Description

Height is only one way to measure how extreme a mountain really is. Everest reaches higher than anything else on Earth, but some peaks achieve something completely different. Instead of rising gradually across huge ridges and valleys, they explode upward from the ground, gaining thousands of meters in an almost impossibly short horizontal distance. That is what this video is about. Not the tallest mountains, and not necessarily the deadliest, but the ones with the most extreme vertical relief. Mountains where the distance from base to summit forms a gigantic wall of rock and ice, with almost nothing hiding their true scale. These are some of the steepest mountains on Earth.
