Description
In this video, I take you through every type of black hole in the universe, starting with the ordinary ones we’ve actually found, and ending with the ones physics refuses to allow. We begin with the classic stellar-mass black hole, born when a giant star collapses in on itself, then the feeder, tearing gas off a companion star until it screams in X-rays. From there they scale up fast: the intermediate missing link we can barely find, the supermassive giants anchoring entire galaxies, and the titan so enormous our whole solar system would be a speck inside it. Then it gets stranger. Two black holes colliding hard enough to shake spacetime itself, rogue black holes wandering the dark with no star at all, and primordial ones born in the Big Bang that might be the missing dark matter holding galaxies together. We finish with the impossible ones, a microscopic black hole that evaporates in a final flash, a black hole made of pure light, a spinning one that might be a door instead of a dead end, and the two that physics seems to forbid entirely. By the end, you’ll see that a black hole isn’t one thing, it’s many, and the strangest one of all might be the universe we’re living in right now.
