Description

October 2026 Ukraine war update: Russia’s air-defense network is under growing pressure as Ukraine targets Pantsir systems, military infrastructure and strategic facilities — while Kyiv has now introduced its new FP-7 tactical ballistic missile into combat. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the first combat use of Ukraine’s domestically produced FP-7 ballistic missile, developed by Ukrainian defense company Fire Point. The weapon is reported to have a range of up to 200 km and a warhead of up to 150 kg, giving Ukraine another domestically produced strike capability as the Russia-Ukraine war enters a new phase. At the same time, Ukrainian forces are continuing attacks against Russian air-defense systems, Pantsir platforms, drone command centers, ammunition depots, military logistics and oil infrastructure. Recent operations have also targeted Russian refineries, airfields, industrial facilities and infrastructure connected to Moscow’s war effort. The growing problem for Russia is not simply the loss of individual air-defense systems. Moscow is being forced to spread systems such as Pantsir across a huge defensive area — protecting military bases, weapons facilities, refineries and other strategic infrastructure from Ukraine’s expanding drone and missile arsenal. Ukraine is also developing the longer-range FP-9 missile, while weapons such as the FP-2 strike drone are already being used against Russian military targets and air-defense positions. This raises a major question for the Kremlin: can Russia protect its own territory as Ukraine’s long-range strike capability continues to grow?
