Description
Your brain weighs 1.5 kg. The Universe is 93 billion light-years wide.
From Earth to Moon to black holes to the edge of everything — the scale of space in simple numbers you can actually feel.
How big is the Universe? 🌌 Is there an edge to the Universe? And how can something that is only about 13.8 billion years old have an observable Universe roughly 93 billion light-years across?
In this episode of Science in 5 Minutes, we take a journey from the human brain to Earth, the Moon, the Sun, giant stars, black holes, galaxies, the cosmic web, and finally the observable Universe.
Along the way, we'll discover just how enormous the cosmos really is — and why, despite everything we've learned, we still don't know the total size of the Universe.

08:14 Why 13.8 Billion Years Old = 93 Billion Wide?
08:48 Beyond What We Can See - Finite or Infinite?
09:34 The Honest Answer
The observable Universe is the part of the Universe whose light has had time to reach us. Because space itself has expanded while that light was travelling, the observable Universe is much wider than simply 13.8 billion light-years. NASA estimates its diameter at roughly 92 billion light-years. Google Help
But the entire Universe could be much larger than the observable Universe — and we currently don't have a reliable measurement of its total size.
